From the first excavations and work carried out at the Mosque of Cristo de la Luz in the 19th century to the most recent ones, many data and information have reached us about the history of this important monument. Thanks to them, today we have information such as the existence of a causeway and a Roman sewer under the current oratory that we can contemplate before our visit, the layout of part of the Roman walled enclosure in this same location, the construction of a cave predating the Muslim period under the main altar whose function has not yet been guessed, a medieval Christian cemetery in the courtyard area, and many other findings such as numismatics and trousseaus that continue to provide valuable information about this enigmatic place in the city of Toledo.
