ROYAL COLLEGE OF NOBLE MAIDENS - History of the architectural complex

Descripción

Although the foundation of the Royal College of Noble Maidens dates back to 1551, it was not until the year 1554 that the institution moved to its current location, a site originally intended for the houses belonging to Don Diego Hurtado de Mendoza y de la Cerda. In the 18th century, under the leadership of Cardinal Lorenzana, the entire complex was restored by the renowned royal architect Ventura Rodríguez, who respected the original characteristics of the primitive construction. Finally, in the early 20th century, the adjacent lands owned by the college were added with the aim of expanding the complex, a project carried out by the architect Santiago Castellanos.
