THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF NOBLE MAIDENS - Interior Description of the Building

Descripción

Once inside the building, we must highlight the three key places of our visit: the church, the courtyard, and the rectory room. On one hand, the religious temple was built at the beginning of the 16th century, presenting a mix of Renaissance and Baroque decorations typical of its time. This church, with a Latin cross plan, features a barrel vault and transept on pendentives where the spectacular main altar dedicated to the Virgin and Child stands out, created by Alejandro Sémimo, along with two Baroque canvases depicting the Virgin of the Well and Saint Jerome. On the other hand, in the upper part, arranged on both sides of the nave, we find medallions with images of some saints from Toledo, and at the foot of the temple, the chaplains' choir and the schoolgirls' choir separated on two levels. In addition to the oratory, it is essential to visit the old Rectory Room filled with Brussels tapestries, furniture, mirrors, coffered ceilings, and canvases, among other artistic objects, where young women received visits from their relatives, and the central courtyard with a double arcade around which all the school rooms are arranged.
