CHURCH OF THE SAVIOR - The Chapel of Saint Catherine

Descripción

The Chapel of Santa Catalina in the Church of El Salvador is an element of great artistic and historical importance as it is preserved in perfect condition and was the chosen place by the Catholic Monarchs to baptize their daughter Juana. The oratory was built at the end of the 15th century in the most relevant space of the temple, next to the presbytery of the Church of El Salvador, at the request of Don Fernando Álvarez de Toledo. This rectangular space, built and decorated in Gothic style, displays an important painting of the "Calvary" made by the famous Toledo artist Correa de Vivar, and nowadays, it has an independent entrance on Calle de Santa Úrsula to access it without the need to enter the interior of the temple.
