STREET OF THE ELBOW.

Descripción

We find ourselves in a space that transports us to the time of the Austrias, as we must consider that in that era the urban layout would be very similar to what we find at this point, narrow streets that formed labyrinthine spaces. This street takes its name from its own configuration, as it forms a 90-degree angle in the shape of an elbow and according to tradition, it was the preferred place for duels during the Golden Age. The most well-known anecdote of Calle del Codo tells us how the famous writer Francisco de Quevedo, after staying up all night in the nearby taverns, used to urinate there, taking advantage of the darkness of the area. Tired of the bad smells this caused, the neighbors painted a cross on the wall with the phrase "do not pee where there is a cross" in an attempt to stop the writer from urinating in their street. As it is well known, Don Francisco's wit, he promptly responded to the protest by writing on the same wall "crosses are not placed where one pees".
