We are in the most famous square in the whole city called "Puerta del Sol", but if we contemplate the place, we realize that there is no gate with any sun. Thanks to the preserved documentation, we know that such gate existed as part of the medieval wall and took its name for being the eastern access to the city, the place where the sun rose every morning. During the Habsburg period, this area was very busy as it was one of the three "mentideros" of the town, located on the stands of the disappeared convent of San Felipe el Real. A "mentidero" was an open space where people gathered to chat, spread rumors, discuss political issues, etc., filling the square with noise, something that has not changed much in Puerta del Sol.
