INTRODUCTION. Route description.

Descripción

During this tour, you will immerse yourself fully in the 18th and 19th centuries, witness the arrival of a new dynasty to the Spanish throne, and become aware of the great change that this new French presence represented at all levels, becoming visible in a special way in the urban and architectural reforms in the city, the capital of the kingdom. When Philip V, the first monarch, arrived from the court of Versailles, Madrid was a gray city that still maintained its medieval layout and where all kinds of religious buildings proliferated. It is easy to imagine the king with his white wig thinking: I am going to change everything. And so it was, the Bourbons have bequeathed us wide avenues, academies, museums, modern institutions, fountains, monumental complexes... that showed the world that Madrid was an Enlightened city.
