Our beloved king Carlos III was the son of the first Bourbon who reigned in our country, Felipe V, and his second wife, Isabel de Farnesio. Carlos was sent to Italy at a very young age and was in charge of the government of Naples for 25 years, so when he ascended to the Spanish throne in 1759, he had a great deal of experience as an enlightened king, something that would become evident in the project of the Prado Salon. During Carlos III's reign, Madrid saw its streets paved, illuminated, a sewer system established, and a General Hospital built - today the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía - to name a few of the many reforms of his enlightened plan. It is no coincidence that he is known as "the best mayor of Madrid".
