ACADEMIA DE SAN FERNANDO. The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.

Descripción

Since its foundation, this Academy has been located in three different places; first it was situated in the workshop of Giovanni DomenicoOlivieri, sculptor of the court who had his own premises inside the Royal Palace of Madrid. Years later, the institution moved to some rooms in the famous Casa de la Panadería in the Plaza Mayor of the Villa and finally, in the year 1752, it would be installed in the current headquarters known as Palacio de Goyeneche, a neoclassical building remodeled by the renowned architect Juan de Villanueva that came to be called "Real Academia de las tres nobles artes de San Fernando". The innovations introduced by the Academy in Spain were to regulate artistic studies, establish the condition that teachers were also artists, study models directly from life and reproductions of artworks, and promote education by obtaining a scholarship in Rome to complete their training.
