We are in front of the building that houses the Presidency of the Government of the Community of Madrid, but originally it was built during the reign of Carlos III, between the years 1760 and 1768, by the architect Jaime Marquet as the Royal House of Mail with the purpose of managing the enormous amount of postal flow in our country. This building is the only one that survived the reform of Puerta del Sol carried out in the mid-19th century, so it has witnessed momentous events such as the uprising of the people of Madrid against Napoleon's troops on May 2, 1808, the proclamation of the Second Republic from its main balcony in 1931, or becoming the main dungeons during Franco's dictatorship.
