ZOCODOVER SQUARE
The Plaza de Zocodover is one of the most emblematic places in Toledo, an authentic heart of the city where history and daily life meet. This large square, located in the old town, has been the meeting point for Toledoans and visitors for centuries. Its name comes from the Arabic "souk al-dawabit", which means "soldiers' market", a reflection of its origin as a place of trade and social activity in Muslim times.
Throughout history, the Plaza de Zocodover has been the scene of numerous events, from markets and fairs to public performances and executions. Today, it retains its vibrancy and is the ideal place to start exploring the city. Surrounded by historic buildings, such as the old House of the Inquisition, and with a wide variety of shops, cafes and restaurants, Zocodover remains a landmark for the inhabitants of Toledo and a must-see for those visiting the city.
From the square you can admire panoramic views of the city and access some of the main streets that lead to other monuments of the city, such as the Cathedral or the Alcázar. Without a doubt, Zocodover is a place full of history, charm and a lively local life, which invites you to discover the soul of Toledo at every step.
