PLAZA DE ZOCODOVER

Descripción

The Plaza de Zocodover is the nerve centre of Toledo and one of its most emblematic places. This space, full of life and with centuries of history, has witnessed countless events that have marked the city. Its name comes from the Arabic sūq ad-dawābb, which means "market of beasts", since in Muslim times it was an important trading point.

Over the centuries, the square has served multiple functions: from a market and place of celebration of fairs to the scene of jousts and autos-da-fe during the Inquisition. Today, Zocodover is still a meeting point for both Toledoans and visitors exploring the city.

Surrounded by historic buildings and with a design that reflects Castilian heritage, the square retains its vibrant character. From here, some of Toledo's main streets depart, such as the famous Calle del Comercio, full of shops and souvenirs, and is the perfect starting point to discover nearby monuments such as the Alcázar de Toledo and the Catedral Primada.

In addition, in its surroundings you will find restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy the local cuisine while immersing yourself in the hustle and bustle of this special place. The Plaza de Zocodover is not only a place of passage, but the authentic heart of the city.
