Located at this point, we must talk about the enlightened project that King Bourbon Carlos III carried out in this part of the city in order to renew urban planning and place the city of Madrid on par with other important cities like Paris, the origin of his dynasty. The idea was to create a space in the shape of a Roman circus surrounded by groves, fountains, and monumental buildings that would organize and adorn the area in a classical manner. This plan was designed by important architects and sculptors such as José de Hermosilla, Juan de Villanueva, Ventura Rodríguez, and Francisco Sabatini between the years 1770 and 1780, and large spaces and fountains were built, such as the Alcachofa fountain that we see in front of this point, the Neptune fountain, the Apollo fountain, the Cibeles fountain, the Astronomical Observatory, the Botanical Garden, and the Cabinet of Natural Sciences.
